“Rhinocéros” written by Eugene Ionesco is about Rhinoceros appearing in a City. People firstly starts to turn into rhinoceros, then everybody willingly conforms to become a rhino, only one person who resists to give up his humanity in the end.

The work utilizes Chinese traditional xuan paper and Chinese black ink as the design materials. The entire white stage was mounted by Chinese xuan paper. During the performing process, the whole stage is gradually dyed by Chinese black ink so as tomatch with the characters in the play becoming Rhinoceros step by step.

This scenic design is based on the purest three-wall structure by dissecting it into two sections, one front stage and one rear stage. The ground is slightly tilted and the front ground is higher than the rear ground.

The plots of the play, including sign of the site, the appearance of Rhinoceros, a cat was trampled to death by a Rhino, a woman was chased by a rhino and human turns into Rhino on the spot, were unified and embodied in the process. The graduation of the Chinese ink can be controlled according to the site’s effect.
